Living the Dream: How I Became a Podcast Producer

My involvement in sports exposed me to broadcasting and sideline reporting, but I wasn’t sure how comfortable I would be in front of a camera. As I got older, I spent a lot of time listening to hip-hop morning shows and sports talk radio. This is where I started to fall in love with audio production, and the idea of being an on-air personality started to pique my interest.

As my curiosity grew, I started watching more movies, TV shows and sporting events through a different lens. I became intrigued by the technical and production side of the business.

“If I had a dollar for every time I was told that I have a voice for radio I’d be rich.”

Back in college, as a student-athlete, my athletic and academic commitments consumed a lot of my time, and upon graduating, the idea of pursuing a career in radio seemed like a long shot.

Despite losing sight of that dream, the idea of having my own radio show never stopped brewing in the back of my mind. I just never put any serious thought into it until now.

I spent several years wondering what if, then podcasting came along. After stumbling onto a startup podcasting platform called Anchor, the idea of pursuing a lifelong dream became surreal.

I didn’t know where to begin, where I would record, or even how often I would publish episodes, but as the ideas began to flow, I used that excitement to jump right in. From this day forward, I was no longer going to let life’s hurdles prevent me from pursuing a life long dream.
